Dodge, an American automobile brand under Stellantis North America, is known for its performance vehicles. Originally founded as the Dodge Brothers Company machine shop by Horace Elgin Dodge and John Francis Dodge in the early 1900s, Dodge initially supplied parts to Detroit-based automakers like Ford before venturing into complete automobile manufacturing in 1914. Acquired by Chrysler in 1928, Dodge's lineup has included trucks and full-sized passenger cars, along with compact and midsize models like the Dart, Coronet, and Charger. The 1973 oil embargo led Chrysler to develop the successful K platform cars, including the Dodge Caravan, which revived the brand in the 1980s. Dodge underwent multiple ownership changes at Chrysler from 1998 to 2009, including a merger with Daimler-Benz AG and a subsequent sale to Cerberus Capital Management. In 2011, Dodge separated from its sub-brands, with the Viper becoming an SRT product and Ram becoming a standalone marque. Dodge and SRT were later merged back together in 2014, and in 2021, Chrysler Group was renamed FCA US LLC as part of the merger with Fiat S.p.A., creating Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which later merged with the PSA Group to form Stellantis.
