Mercedes-Benz A200 Sedan CKD is the cheapest Mercedes in Malaysia, with a lower price compared to the imported models.

Power system

The A200 Sedan is equipped with a 1.33-liter engine sourced from Renault and a Getrag 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine performs better between 2,000 and 5,000 RPM, but overall it lacks refinement. The power response is not as intuitive, and the transmission is not the most responsive dual-clutch. In sport mode, it sometimes downshifts excessively. The 0-100 km/h time is 8.42 seconds, and the 100-0 km/h braking distance is 39.79 meters.

Fuel consumption

On a 110.2 km trip, with about 70% highway and 30% city driving, the fuel consumption was around 7.9 liters per 100 km. The onboard display showed an average fuel consumption of 6.4 liters per 100 km.

Vehicle dimensions

Interior space is limited, with constrained headroom and legroom. The trunk has a capacity of 370 liters.

Interior configuration

Compared to the imported model, the CKD version adds dual-zone automatic climate control and rear air vents. However, the front passenger seat is manually adjustable, the 64-color ambient lighting is removed, and the faux carbon fiber trim appears tacky. The rest of the interior performs adequately.

Driving experience

Handling is acceptable when cornering, as long as the speed is not too high, with responsive and accurate steering. The suspension is tuned for comfort, effectively absorbing road imperfections. It improves ride comfort with regular tires, as opposed to run-flat tires, but the rear torsion beam shows some weakness on uneven surfaces. Cabin insulation is good, though tire noise is noticeable at high speeds.

Summary

The Mercedes-Benz A200 Sedan CKD has a decent exterior, but the interior has some shortcomings. Its powertrain performance is average, but it offers good driving comfort and attractive design. With a price tag of 210,902 Malaysian Ringgit, it certainly lives up to the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star badge. However, if your budget allows, the A250 would be a better choice. Alternatively, you could consider D-segment sedans like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.
