On September 28, the Mazda EZ-6 officially started its pre-sale, with a total of 7 models launched, offering prices ranging from RM 94137-117672. As the first model jointly developed by Mazda and CHANGAN Automotive, the Mazda EZ-6, built on the CHANGANEPA platform, is positioned as a mid-size sedan, offering the option of pure electric and range extender. The Mazda EZ-6 is expected to officially launch on October 26.
Mazda's progress in new energy vehicles is not particularly fast, but the cooperation with CHANGAN has provided quite a few advantages. The Mazda EZ-6 is largely based on the platform of the CHANGAN DEEPAL L07, topped with Mazda's own exterior and interior design, and is planned to be sold at Mazda prices. So what are the highlights of this model?
Exterior: Distinct Family Design Style
In terms of appearance, the Mazda EZ-6 continues the brand's soulful design philosophy, and the distinctive front grille shape is highly recognizable. The pure electric model uses a closed front grille, while the range extender model uses an open front grille, which is a clear indication of the different power forms. The sides are slender and sharp headlights, using a separate structure, and the main light source is hidden under the daytime running lights.
On the side of the body, the new car adopts a fastback sedan style, equipped with hidden door handles and frameless doors, and standard 19-inch wheels, with a full and smooth waistline. The rear of the car adopts the current popular continuous flowing grid front light for electric vehicles, and the rear light complements the built-in variable electric tail wing, presenting a simple and beautiful rear design. In terms of body size, the length, width and height of Mazda EZ-6 are 4921/1890/1485mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2895mm, which has obvious advantages among the same class.
Interior: An Unprecedented Tech Gallery
As for the interior, the Mazda EZ-6 adopts a relatively simple design concept, equipped with a 14.6-inch suspended hollow large screen, a 10.1-inch full-liquid crystal instrument and a 50-inch AR-HUD head-up display, bringing an unprecedented sense of technology to the whole car, which is quite outstanding among joint-venture brands. In addition, the new car is also equipped with a double-spoke flat bottom multi-function steering wheel and a memory shift, and the overall technological atmosphere is quite strong.
The new car's interior also uses a lot of leather wrapping. In terms of intelligent cabin, Mazda EZ-6 is equipped with the third generation Snapdragon digital cockpit (8155 chip), supports application sound wave simulation, four-zone voice recognition control, all-scene visible speech, mobile APP remote control and CarPlay/HUAWEI HiCar mobile phone interaction and other functions. In terms of intelligent driving, Mazda EZ-6 has the L2.5 intelligent driving and parking assistance system, which can play a large role in daily life.
Power: Offer pure electric and extended-range dual options
In terms of power, Mazda EZ-6 is based on the CHANGANEPA platform and offers optional extended-range and pure electric options. The extended-range version of the vehicle is equipped with a 1.5L four-cylinder range extender with a maximum power of 70 kW. The driving electric motor has a maximum power of 160 kW, and the charging fuel consumption is as low as 5.3/100km. In terms of endurance, the battery packs with capacities of 18.99 kWh and 28.4 kWh correspond to CLTC pure electric endurance mileage of 130 km and 200 km, and the combined endurance mileage is 1300 km.
The pure electric version of the model adopts a single-motor rear-drive layout, with a maximum power of 190 kilowatts for the drive motor, a peak torque of 320 Newton meters, and a top speed of 170 km/h. Regarding range, there is a choice of battery packs with capacities of 56.1 and 68.8 kilowatts per hour, with corresponding CLTC pure electric cruising ranges of 480 kilometers and 600 kilometers respectively.
In terms of chassis, the Mazda EZ-6 uses a form of front McPherson strut and rear H-link multi-link independent suspension, and adopts a balanced weight structure of 50:50 of the front and rear axles, which can better control the vehicle's movements and posture, also provide clearer and more accurate road feedback. At the same time, by increasing the steering force and damping in the central zone of the steering system, the precise control of the vehicle by the driver is enhanced.
Summary
Comparatively, Mazda, as an internationally renowned car brand, has strong brand prestige and a broad mass base. The Mazda EZ-6, as a new energy vehicle, if placed in the global market, its competitiveness is still very prominent. Although many of its three-electric technologies are not from Mazda itself, it can still reach the mainstream level with the help of CHANGAN auto. In the Chinese market, it will face intense competition, including notable contenders like the BYD Seal, but the comprehensive competitiveness of the Mazda EZ-6 is still slightly weak.
it will fill Mazda's market gap in the new energy sector and further strengthen its influence in the midsize sedan market. If this model can be exported to the global market in the future, it will be of great assistance in driving Mazda's volume of sales.
