LienMay 20, 2024, 10:28 AM
On May 19th, the new Geely Boyue L was officially launched。 The new car will be launched in 4 models with a price range of RMB 115,700 to 149,700. And as a revised model, in addition to the price reduction, the new car also adds a new smoky grey and azure-blue exterior color scheme, and upgrades the interior detail design and configuration. In terms of power, it continues to offer a choice of 1.5T and 2.0T four-cylinder engines, all matched with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Furthermore, at the time of its launch, we also test drove the new Boyue L to experience its control feelings in different scenarios.
Static Experience| The Exterior Continues the Current Model Design
Two New Body Colors Added
Smoky Grey Color Scheme
Azure-Blue Color Match
On the exterior, the new Boyue L continues the styling design of the current model, and the biggest difference is the addition of new rain grey and azure-blue body colors, giving a more textured feel. Specifically, the new car still adopts the "digital symphony technology aesthetics" design concept, equipped with wave ripple front grille, 182 LED light units forms the particle beam light group, and the glowing LOGO are all highly recognizable.
The side of the body adopts sharp lines, which creates a good lighting effect, with a strong sense of three-dimensionality. At the same time, the roof adopts the currently popular blackening process, coupled with the downward pressing roof lines, which creates a dynamic posture.
The biggest feature of the rear is still the through-tail light design, which is composed of 290 LED light units. The lighting effect is indeed dazzling, and the recognition at night is also good.
In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new Boyue L are 4670/1900/1705mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2777mm.
Detailed optimization of interior design
New colors and functional configurations added
For the interior, the new Boyue L continues the current model design, and add new azure-blue and moonlight silver sand white colors. At the same time, optimizations are made to details, such as replacing parts of the interior that are easy to come into contact with skin from white to black, making the interior more dirt-resistant. Area under the control screen has been optimized, with an added shortcut button for the air conditioning system. Front row cup holders now have a cover, and the wireless charging panel design has been improved. The gear knob has been replaced with a new style, looking more compact and delicate. Also, an upgraded sun visor with light and shadow effects has been added across all models, able to block 100% of UV lights.
In terms of intelligence, the new car is equipped with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch vertical large screen, and built-in Geely Galaxy OS intelligent car machine system. It also has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, supporting 4G network, four-zone voice recognition wake-up, face recognition, app store, mobile APP remote functions and OTA upgrades. In addition, it supports Huawei's HiCar and Carlink.
In terms of intelligent driving, the APA fully automatic parking assist and RPA remote parking assist features have been added. We also had a physical experience of the APA fully automatic parking assist feature on the scene. To increase the difficulty and reality, the test vehicle's front and rear glass were treated with painting, so it was impossible to see any field of vision inside the vehicle, and it only relies on the 540-degree panoramic image for assisted driving. Even under such severe conditions, the system can still stably and accurately complete the parking task.
Dynamic Experience
Strong acceleration|Stable chassis
In terms of power, the new Boyue L continues to be equipped with two four-cylinder engines, 1.5T and 2.0T. Among them, the 1.5T engine has a maximum power of 181 horsepower, a peak torque of 290 Nm, a maximum speed of 195km/h, and a WLTC comprehensive fuel consumption of 6.8L/100km. And the 2.0T engine has a maximum power of 218 horsepower, a peak torque of 325 Nm, a maximum speed of 215km/h, and a WLTC comprehensive fuel consumption of 7.4L/100km. In terms of transmission systems, they all match the 7-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox.
In the 100-kilometer acceleration project, the 2.0T model has the fastest actual measured acceleration time of 0-100km/h is 8.57 seconds (data from Cheya APP), averaging at 8.8 seconds. And in the case of mutiple-tests, the acceleration performance and braking didi not appear thermal attenuation, it is still able to maintain stable performance output. It's worth mentioning that the test drive model is equipped with GT tyres which exceeded its grip during the initial start, causing it to skid a bit. However, if the model equipped with Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres, it is expected to perform better in terms of acceleration.
Drive safely on closed professional venues, do not imitate
In addition, in the "dynamic circuit" project, Boyue L's 2.0T engine showed its powerful strength. Whether it's the initial acceleration or mid-to-late-stage acceleration capabilities, they are all excellent. On a 1.5km straight road, it easily accelerated to 172km/h, and the posture of the car is very stable, and with a substantial stability of German cars, it gives the driver a lot of confidence.
As for the chassis, the Boyue L, built on the CMA architecture, has also shown excellent handling genes. It adopts the mainstream front McPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension setting, but has been carefully tuned by Geely engineers to achieve balance between SPORTS mode and comfort. The bottom is tenacious when facing the uneven road surface, the suspension system can quickly suppress the bounce of the body; when facing large curve bends, it supports the body very well and suppresses the lean very well.
It's worth mentioning that the brake pedal of Boyue L is quite firm, the brake travel is fairly short, requiring some time to adapt to; simultaneously, the throttle response of the vehicle in the initial phase is speedy, exhibiting a bit of an electric vehicle style, and the steering is accurate, with no noticeable dead zones, its noise reduction and sound insulation also lead in its class. Moreover, the 7-speed dual clutch transmission equipped on Boyue L performed beyond my expectations. Except for feeling the impact between gear shifts during 0-100KM acceleration, the experience from other items felt like that of a CVT transmission, smooth and linear, enhancing the comfort of driving.
What are the differences in configuration?
The new Boyue L offers 4 configuration models, including 3 1.5T models and 1 2.0T model. The 1.5T Dragon Soaring model is equipped with 18-inch wheel hubs, three driving mode switches, 540-degree panoramic images with transparent chassis, keyless entry for the front, high and low beam LED headlights, non-opening panoramic sunroof, electric seat for the main driver, 6-speaker sound system, automatic air conditioning and rear air conditioning vent, etc. The biggest advantage of this configuration model is that it lowers the threshold for sales initiation, but it is not highly recommended.
The new Boyue L 1.5T luxury version adds 19-inch wheel hubs, front and rear head air curtains, L2-level driving assistance, front parking radar, electric trunk, adaptive high and low beam, opening panoramic sunroof, front row wireless charging for mobile phones, front seat heating, co-pilot seat electric adjustment, and interior ambient lighting based on the basis of the Longteng version. The price is only 10,000 RMB more, which is obviously much higher in cost performance.
The 1.5T flagship version adds fatigue driving reminder, 25.6-inch AR-HUD head display, face recognition, four-zone voice recognition wake-up, front seat ventilation, main driver seat massage/memory, main driver leg support adjustment, 11 Infinity Yanfei Lishi speakers and air quality management system on the basis of the 1.5T luxury version. Although the price has increased by another 10,000 RMB, the added value is far more than 10,000 RMB, this version configuration is also worth recommending.
As for the 2.0T smart driving version, based on the 1.5T flagship version, it has replaced the 2.0T power system, and added 20-inch wheel hubs and Goodyear brand tires, built-in driving recorder, NFC/RFID key, in-car fragrance system, negative ion generator, and black crystal dual-color body kit, etc. It also offers smart driving optional package, the price has increased by 14,000 RMB.
Conclusion
With the launch of the all-new Boyue L, entering the market at a lower price not only satisfies consumers' pursuit of cost performance, but also further enhances the quality and practicality of the vehicle through the addition of new interior and exterior colors and the optimization upgrade of interior details, thereby more in line with the real needs of consumers. Combined with its excellent dynamic performance, the new Boyue L still has strong competitiveness among peers in fuel vehicles. Wondering when it will enter Malaysia?
