【PCauto】Recently, Tesla has taken another major step in advancing Malaysia's electric vehicle charging infrastructure with the successful completion of its new V4 Supercharger station at The Gardens Mall.
Since the first domestic deployment of a V4 Supercharger in May 2024, Tesla’s V4 network has been expanding rapidly throughout the country. In addition to the new station at The Gardens Mall, other key V4 Supercharger sites have been established across Malaysia:
Putrajaya IOI City Mall:
As one of Southeast Asia’s first V4 Supercharger installations, this station is located on the P1 level of the East Wing in Area F (F1 pillar). It features multiple V4 Supercharger stalls, each capable of delivering a peak DC charging power of up to 250 kW. For instance, a Tesla Model 3 Long Range can gain as much as 282 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. Moreover, the site is equipped with two destination chargers (11 kW AC chargers). In terms of fees, the DC Supercharger is priced at RM1.25 per kWh. Should a vehicle remain parked after charging is complete and occupy a fully booked charger, an idle fee of RM4 per minute will be applied. Parking rates are set at RM2 for the first hour on weekdays, followed by RM1 for each subsequent hour, while on weekends and public holidays, the first hour costs RM3 with RM1 for every additional hour.
Puchong IOI Mall:
Another early V4 Supercharger site in Southeast Asia, this facility is located on the B1 level near the ladies’ parking area. It offers comparable charging specifications and fee structures to those at the Putrajaya IOI City Mall station, ensuring efficient service for Tesla drivers.
With the addition of the new V4 Supercharger at The Gardens Mall, Tesla has further bolstered its charging network coverage in Malaysia, providing drivers with a broader range of charging options. One of the most notable improvements of these V4 stations over their predecessors is the inclusion of longer charging cables. This enhancement not only increases convenience for Tesla owners but also paves the way for the potential future integration of other electric vehicle brands into the charging network. While Tesla chargers are currently reserved exclusively for Tesla vehicles, the prospect of a more open network in the long run is certainly promising.
Furthermore, Tesla already operates multiple V3 Supercharger stations as well as numerous destination chargers across Malaysia. As of December 17, 2024, Tesla’s Malaysian network comprises 13 Supercharger stations with a total of 60 Supercharger stalls, in addition to 13 destination charger sites that house 64 AC chargers overall. In line with the global battery electric vehicle plan agreed upon by Tesla and Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Tesla is mandated to deploy 50 Supercharger stalls nationwide by 2026, with at least 15% of these available for use by all electric vehicles.
The completion of the new V4 Supercharger station at The Gardens Mall marks yet another significant milestone in Tesla’s development in Malaysia. With the continued rollout of additional Supercharger stations and ongoing optimizations to the network, Tesla is well-positioned to further enhance the electric vehicle user experience, injecting new vitality into the local EV market. For both current Tesla owners and potential EV buyers, this development is an encouraging sign that electric vehicle adoption in Malaysia will soon become even more convenient and efficient.
