With the intensification of the automobile market competition, major auto companies continue to launch new models to meet the increasingly diversified needs of consumers. In 2022, Proton launched the all-new redesigned Iriz, which, with its outstanding configuration and reasonable price, became a highlight in the B-segment hatchback market.

The 2022 Proton Iriz offers three model choices: 1.3 Standard, 1.6 Executive, and 1.6 Active. The specific configuration and price of each model are as follows:

- 1.3 Standard CVT Price: RM 42,800

- 1.6 Executive CVT Price: RM 50,300

- 1.6 Active CVT Price: RM 57,300

Although the price of Iriz Active is the highest, what it adds most are decorative upgrades to the appearance and interior, such as LED headlights, voice control system, red interior trim, etc., and the actual performance has not significantly improved. Therefore, for consumers with limited budgets, the 1.6 Executive version may be a more cost-effective choice.

Exterior Design: Completely renewed, more dynamic

The 2022 Proton Iriz has made major improvements in its appearance, showing a more modern and dynamic style. The new Iriz's front face adopts the Proton family's iconic “Infinite Weave” grille design, coupled with a redesigned front bumper, making the car look more exquisite and fashionable.

Especially the Iriz Active version, which is equipped with a new LED headlight, while the standard version and the Executive version still use halogen lamps.

On the side of the body, the Iriz Active is equipped with a heavy black plastic surround and roof rack, giving it a more SUV-style look. The rear part of the car maintains an unchanged design overall, but a new decorative stripe located below the license plate area has been added to enhance the overall visual effect.

Interior Upgrade

Inside, the changes to the 2022 Iriz are just as significant. The new floating 8-inch infotainment touch screen becomes the most eye-catching highlight in the car and is installed on the Executive and Active versions, while the standard version is equipped with a sound system with Bluetooth function.

Although still lacking Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functions, the new infotainment system supports voice control, which can adjust windows and air conditioning, enhancing the convenience of operation.

In addition, the air conditioning system has also been upgraded, adopting a new digital control unit, and equipped with an N95 filter to improve the air quality inside the car. The interior of the Iriz Active version has added red decorations, including seatbelts, seat lines, etc., bringing a more lively visual effect.

Power System

In terms of the power system, the 2022 Iriz comes with two engine options: a 1.3-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with an output of 95 horsepower and a torque of 120 Newton meters; a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, outputting 109 horsepower and 150 Newton meters of torque.

Both engines match the CVT gearbox, providing a smooth driving experience. The new CVT gearbox supports 5 virtual gears and comes with Eco and Sport driving modes to meet different driving needs.

Safety Configuration: Basically Perfect, Slightly Insufficient

In terms of safety configuration, the 2022 Iriz has been upgraded in the basic configuration. All models are standard with 4 safety airbags, while the Executive and Active versions are increased to 6 safety airbags.

In addition, although the Iriz received the ASEAN NCAP five-star safety rating from 2017-2020, the new standard requires the ADAS advanced driving assistance system to be equipped. However, the Iriz does not currently have this system, which is slightly insufficient compared with competitors such as Toyota Yaris and Perodua Myvi.

Overall, the 2022 Proton Iriz has strengthened its competitiveness in the B-segment hatchback market through a series of upgrades in appearance, interior, and configuration. Although it is slightly lacking in terms of the advanced driving assistance system, with its modern design, rich configuration, and reasonable price, Iriz is still an unmissable option in this market segment.

For consumers pursuing cost-effectiveness and driving pleasure, Iriz Executive is undoubtedly an option to consider, while for those who like SUV style and high-end configurations, Iriz Active is also a good choice.
