Using ron97 and ron95 for driving, how much difference can it make in a year?

LienSep 20, 2024, 05:34 PM

Different car models have different adaptability to fuel, some cars need to add ron95, some cars need to add ron97, but some cars can add either type of gasoline. The diesel engine, on the other hand, is a form that differs from the gasoline engine, and is currently relatively niche in the country and is mainly used by some pickup trucks and high-end SUVs.

So, what's the difference between the mainstream ron97 and ron95 gasoline? In fact, the main difference is the octane rating of the gasoline. The octane rating of ron97 gasoline is higher, it can provide a better compression ratio, allowing the engine to run more efficiently, thus providing a stronger power performance, and therefore more expensive. In comparison, the power performance of ron95 gasoline will be a bit worse, but the price will be much cheaper.

So, if your car can use both types of fuel, how much money could you save in a year? The current domestic price of ron97 is RM 3.19, while ron97 is priced at RM 2.05, the difference between the two fuels is RM 1.14.

Assuming a car owner travels 1000km per year, it would cost an additional RM 11400 to use ron97 over ron95 in a year, which is a considerable expense.

Assuming from there, if a car owner travels 20000km per year, using ron97 over ron95 would cost an extra RM 22800 per year; if a car owner travels 30000km per year, using ron97 over ron95 would cost an extra RM 34200 per year.

Although it seems like a big difference at first glance, in certain working conditions, such as high-speed and high-load situations, using ron97 might be more fuel-efficient. After all, ron97 has a higher octane number and it can provide a better compression ratio, which allows the engine to run more efficiently and might even reduce some fuel consumption. However, if the engine design is targeted for 92 petrol, or if driving habits and road conditions lead to increased fuel consumption, then using 95 petrol might not bring about a significant reduction in fuel consumption.

So, if you fuel your car with ron97 and ron95, the annual cost of using the car would indeed be different, but the same goes for the user experience. Although ron97 is priced better, the power it provides when driving would be more robust. Consumers can choose based on their own usage needs.
