GWM previewed the Haval H6 HEV hybrid vehicle at the 2024 Malaysia Auto Show. The car is locally assembled (CKD), and GWM also plans to introduce another locally assembled (CKD) model — the Haval Jolion. The Haval H6 HEV is now open for pre-orders and is scheduled to be officially launched in the third quarter of 2024. The price has not yet been announced, but because it is locally assembled, the price is expected to be very competitive.
Is the Malaysian market getting the latest Haval H6 HEV?
Unfortunately not. Like the Proton X70 and Geely Boyue L, the model to be launched in the third quarter of 2024 is not the latest model in the Chinese market, but the model before the facelift. Its body dimensions are 4,683mm (length), 1,886mm (width), and 1,730mm (height). However, the H6, with a wheelbase of 2,738mm, surpasses the three popular models in the same class. In comparison, the wheelbase of the CR-V is 2,660mm, and that of the X70 and CX-5 is 2,670mm and 2,700mm, respectively.
In terms of power, the H6 is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an output power of 150 PS and a torque of 230 Nm. It is paired with an electric motor with a rated power of 177 PS and a torque of 300 Nm. The combined output power reached 243 PS and the combined torque is 530 Nm.
This front-wheel drive uses GWM's Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). At low speeds, the electric motor mainly provides power, while the engine comes into operation at higher speeds depending on driving conditions.
In short, the DHT gearbox has the characteristics of rapid response, smooth gear changing, and efficient transmission, which can provide an excellent driving experience. Compared with traditional automatic transmissions, the DHT gearbox has higher energy recovery efficiency, which can convert braking energy into electrical energy and store it for use by electric motors. This design makes the vehicle quieter at low speeds and can reduce the load on the engine, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
In addition, the DHT gearbox also has an intelligent control system, which can automatically select the best transmission mode according to driving conditions and vehicle speed, to provide higher fuel economy and driving efficiency. It also has an intelligent start-stop function that can automatically shut down the engine when the vehicle is stopped to save fuel and reduce emissions.
Standard configuration of the Haval H6 HEV includes:
- 7-inch digital instrument display
- Automatic dual-zone air conditioning control
- 10.25-inch infotainment system, supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Panoramic sunroof
- HUD
- Qi wireless charger
- 12.3-inch infotainment display
- PM 2.5 air filtration system
As for the Advance Driver Assistance System (ADAS), the H6 Hybrid is equipped with full-speed adaptive cruise control (ACC), automatic emergency braking (AEB), rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), traffic jam assistance (TJA), and the uniquely named intelligent evasion system (WDS). This system, upon detecting large vehicles on the road, automatically keeps the H6 at a greater distance from these large vehicles.
In general, the Haval H6 HEV, with its powerful powertrain, rich configuration, and advanced driving assistance technology, has strong competitiveness in the Malaysian market. Now it depends on the pricing of the Haval H6 HEV.
