Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer, has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century, rooted in the Nissan zaibatsu, now known as Nissan Group. Headquartered in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan, the company operates globally, selling vehicles under the Nissan, Infiniti, and formerly the Datsun brands. Since 1999, Nissan has been a key player in the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, a strategic partnership involving Renault of France and Mitsubishi Motors of Japan. Renault holds a 15% voting stake in Nissan, reciprocated by Nissan in Renault. Additionally, Nissan has a controlling 34% stake in Mitsubishi Motors since October 2016. Nissan has consistently ranked among the world's top automakers, holding the sixth position globally in 2017. Notably, in 2014, it was the largest car manufacturer in North America. With a substantial revenue of $78 billion in 2022, Nissan secured its position as the ninth-largest automobile maker globally. The company has also emerged as the leading Japanese brand in key markets such as China, Russia, and Mexico. A significant milestone for Nissan is its prominence in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. As of April 2018, Nissan claimed the title of the world's largest EV manufacturer, boasting global sales exceeding 320,000 all-electric vehicles. The Nissan LEAF, the flagship model in its fully-electric lineup, stands out as the second best-selling electric car globally, trailing only the Tesla Model 3. Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. is a powerhouse in the automotive industry, marked by its extensive global presence, strategic alliances, impressive revenue, and a notable position in the electric vehicle market with the pioneering Nissan LEAF.
