Interior Features

Leather seats are comfortable with great thigh and side support, the breathable material can prevent back sweating, and the "Anti Vibration Elastic Comfort Foam" padding is effective. There is extensive use of soft materials inside the car providing a good touch feeling. The X-Terrain variant also includes an automatic anti-glare rearview mirror, a e-LUMAX analog instrument panel with a 4.2-inch multi-information display, and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The sound system delivers impressive sound with 8 speakers, the interface reacts quickly, and supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Powertrain

The new D-Max is equipped with a new 4JJ3-TCX engine, replacing the previous 4JJ1 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. Displacement and number of cylinders remain the same, but the maximum power is 190 PS, torque is 450 Nm, an increase of 13 PS and 70 Nm respectively compared to the previous model. The engine responds quickly with smooth power output and noise control is good, though not as good as Triton. The 6-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and there are no paddle shifters. This model also features rear axle differential lock.

Safety System

The forward collision warning function in the ADAS feature is sensitive and loud, and there is no 360-degree camera, only a rearview camera. But other features such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beam, and adaptive cruise control with stop and go function work well.

Ride and Handling

The suspension has been redesigned, making it extremely comfortable. The body uses a high proportion of high-strength steel to increase rigidity and reduce weight. The seat foam helps to reduce vibrations, making driving more comfortable. The steering response has improved compared to the previous generation, but it is not as direct as the Hilux or Triton. The brake pedal feels progressive and gentle.
