Since its debut in 2004, the Toyota Fortuner has evolved to its present state, with the 2021 Fortuner 2.8 VRZ priced at 203,183 ringgits (SST exempted until June 30, 2021).

Power System

It is equipped with a new 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine, model 1GD-FTV, producing 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 12.8 seconds, with a braking distance of 49 meters. The turbo-diesel powertrain offers smooth and linear acceleration, making overtaking effortless. Compared to the Hilux, the Fortuner offers a more confident driving experience.

The fuel consumption of the Fortuner is 13.8 liters per 100 kilometers, with an equal split of city and highway driving.

Dimensions

The size is enormous, sharing a trapezoidal frame structure with Hilux, it is tall and wide, which makes models like the Proton X70 look smaller on the road.

Interior Features

The interior looks premium and sturdy. The red and black leather upholstery is complemented by leather-wrapped contact points. There is a dual-layer glove box, with the top section able to refrigerate drinks. It is equipped with rear-seat entertainment screens, rear air vents, and plenty of storage space. The overall interior quality is excellent, with good tactile feedback from the buttons and solid materials. The infotainment system is easy to connect, and the 9-inch touchscreen is responsive, though it suffers from glare under direct sunlight. The 8-speaker audio setup offers average performance. The driver's seat is electrically adjustable, providing good forward visibility. The second-row legroom and headroom are decent for adults, while the third row is more suitable for children. However, the third-row seats cannot fold flat, which affects cargo space and rear visibility. The optional wireless charger is poorly positioned, making it impractical.

Safety System

The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) is easy to use, the blind-spot monitoring is practical and the 360-degree camera aids in negotiating tight spaces.
