Jaguar is the luxury vehicle brand of Jaguar Land Rover, a British multinational car manufacturer headquartered in Whitley, Coventry, England. Founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, Jaguar initially focused on motorcycle sidecars before expanding into passenger car bodies. Under the ownership of SS Cars, it collaborated with Standard Motor Company, producing cars under the Jaguar model name. The company transitioned from SS Cars to Jaguar Cars in 1945. In 1966, Jaguar merged with the British Motor Corporation, leading to the formation of British Motor Holdings (BMH). Subsequent mergers with Leyland Motor Corporation and nationalization in 1975 resulted in the establishment of British Leyland. In 1984, Jaguar was separated from British Leyland and listed on the London Stock Exchange. However, it was acquired by Ford in 1990. During the late 1970s, Jaguar became the manufacturer of choice for the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, delivering the most recent prime ministerial car, an XJ (X351), in May 2010. The company also held royal warrants from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles. Ford's ownership extended to both Jaguar and Land Rover until 2008 when Tata Motors acquired both brands, creating Jaguar Land Rover as a subsidiary holding company. In 2013, Jaguar Cars merged with Land Rover, forming Jaguar Land Rover as the unified entity for design, manufacture, sales, and brand ownership. Collaborative design facilities and assembly plants have been utilized by Jaguar and Land Rover since the Ford era. Notably, on February 15, 2021, Jaguar Land Rover announced its commitment to producing fully electric Jaguar cars by 2025, signaling a significant shift towards sustainability.
