Overview of the Series

The Suzuki Jimny was first launched in 1970 and has gone through four generations with over 3 million units sold. It is one of the most iconic off-road vehicles in Malaysia. The current fourth generation draws a lot of inspiration from its sharply designed predecessor, creating a retro appeal. Besides, its price is on the rise with a long waiting list.

Powertrain

The Suzuki Jimny is equipped with a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated K15B inline 4-cylinder engine, which is also used in the Suzuki Ertiga and Vitara Brezza (not sold in Malaysia), delivering a maximum power of 102 horsepower and a peak torque of 130 Nm. It comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission and is paired with Suzuki's AllGrip system for four-wheel drive, clocking 0-100 km/h acceleration in 15.81 seconds.

Fuel Consumption

Under driving conditions where city and highway driving each account for half of the 100.5 kilometers, the Suzuki Jimny has a fuel consumption of 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers.

Body Size

The Jimny is a smaller vehicle and does not fall under the mini car category in Malaysia and globally. It is smaller than the Perodua Ativa, and when it comes to cabin space, it is particularly cramped in the back row.

Interior Configurations

The Jimny's interior carries a retro vibe, with a traditional dashboard and key ignition operation. The windows are not manually rolled, equipped with automatic air conditioning, steering wheel audio controls, and infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The doors do not have switches, the seats are not adjustable, the headroom is ample, and visibility is good.

Driving Experience

The Jimny features a ladder frame chassis and a combination of 3-link rigid axle and coil spring suspension, providing nimble performance on muddy and harsh terrains, and decent comfort on smooth roads. However, it's slightly loud inside the car.

Space Performance

The interior space is quite congested. The legroom in the back row barely accommodates a tennis ball. Adults sitting in the back row will feel crowded, and even children might feel uncomfortable. There isn't much storage space in the vehicle, with just two cup holders and a USB port, and the glove box is not large. However, the seats can be folded to increase space, while the trunk floor is made of hard plastic, making cleaning easy.
