Brand

Volkswagen (VW) is a renowned German automobile manufacturer headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. Established in 1937 by the German Labour Front, Volkswagen gained global recognition after World War II under the guidance of British Army officer Ivan Hirst. It stands as the flagship brand of the Volkswagen Group, the largest automotive manufacturer worldwide in 2016 and 2017. The brand is notably associated with the iconic Beetle and derives its name from the German terms ""Volk"" and ""Wagen,"" translating to ""people's car."" Volkswagen's rich history traces back to the 1930s when it was conceived as part of the Strength Through Joy program. Seeking to create an affordable car for German families, Ferdinand Porsche designed the ""Volksauto,"" incorporating innovative features like an air-cooled rear engine and a distinctive ""beetle"" shape. Volkswagen's global impact is evident, with China being its largest market, contributing 40% of sales and profits. The brand's commitment to innovation, symbolized by the enduring Beetle design, continues to shape the automotive industry.

  • Overview

The Volkswagen Tiguan has been one of Volkswagen's best-selling models worldwide in recent years, competing in a highly competitive market in Malaysia.

    Power System

The model reviewed is the 1.4 TSI version. The transmission system has a delay response issue, hesitates to downshift when the accelerator pedal is pressed, the turbo lag is obvious, but the power performance is good after the turbo intervenes. The wet dual-clutch transmission shifts smoothly and can run smoothly in congested road conditions.

    Fuel Consumption

After driving 96.3 kilometers in 50/50 highway and city conditions, the actual fuel consumption is 9.8 liters per hundred kilometers, and the vehicle computer displays an average fuel consumption of 8.3 liters per hundred kilometers.

    Body Size

    Not mentioned.

    Interior Configuration

The interior continues Volkswagen's conservative style. The design is not stunning but also will not go wrong. The workmanship is excellent. The interior space is spacious with ample storage space. The ergonomics design is good and the button layout is reasonable. The driver's seat has 12-way electric adjustment and 4-way lumbar support, and the passenger's seat is manually adjustable. The rear space is average in its class, the knee space is not as good as the Honda CR-V, but better than the Mazda CX-5.

    Safety System

No ADAS system is equipped, which might be a reason for some consumers to opt-out.
