Brand

Volkswagen (VW) is a renowned German automobile manufacturer headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. Established in 1937 by the German Labour Front, Volkswagen gained global recognition after World War II under the guidance of British Army officer Ivan Hirst. It stands as the flagship brand of the Volkswagen Group, the largest automotive manufacturer worldwide in 2016 and 2017. The brand is notably associated with the iconic Beetle and derives its name from the German terms ""Volk"" and ""Wagen,"" translating to ""people's car."" Volkswagen's rich history traces back to the 1930s when it was conceived as part of the Strength Through Joy program. Seeking to create an affordable car for German families, Ferdinand Porsche designed the ""Volksauto,"" incorporating innovative features like an air-cooled rear engine and a distinctive ""beetle"" shape. Volkswagen's global impact is evident, with China being its largest market, contributing 40% of sales and profits. The brand's commitment to innovation, symbolized by the enduring Beetle design, continues to shape the automotive industry.

  • Overview of Car Models

: The B class car market is fiercely competitive, with models such as the Toyota Vios and Honda City already dominant. The newcomer, Volkswagen Vento, faces challenges.

    Power System

: The Volkswagen Vento Highline is equipped with a 1.2L TSI engine, capable of outputting 105 horsepower and 175 Nm of torque, and is matched with a 7-speed dry dual-clutch automatic transmission. It can output full torque at a low rotation speed of 1550 rpm, making acceleration and overtaking easy. However, in stop-and-go traffic conditions, the dual-clutch transmission has slight jerks, especially when starting on a slope, it is not as smooth as the transmission of the Honda City Hybrid and Toyota Vios. The 0-100 km/h acceleration takes 10.9 seconds, and the braking from 100 km/h to zero is about 41 meters.

    Fuel Consumption

: The Vento performs well in fuel efficiency. On highways, the average fuel consumption is about 6.0 liters/100 km, and it's about 8.5 liters/100 km in congested traffic conditions. If the throttle can be controlled, a 55-liter fuel tank can support at least 600 km of highway driving.

    Body Size

: Not mentioned in the article.

    Interior Configuration

: The interior uses a lot of hard plastic, which feels cheaper compared to the Toyota Vios and Honda City. There are rear air outlets, but there are no rear armrests and USB charging ports. Even the top model does not have keyless entry and one-button engine start, and there are only 4 safety airbags in the entire car. However, it is equipped with an R340G infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the sound effect of the 4 speakers is good.

    Safety System

: The whole car is only equipped with 4 safety airbags (front side), without side air curtains.
